ASP

Application Service Provider provides centrally stored applications to licensees or subscribers via the Internet. ASPs host multiple computers in a cluster to run many application instances simultanously in a redundant environment with fail-over mechanisms. Subscribers often use ASP services as an opportunity for out-sourcing enterprise-scale applications like CRM, e-mail or Personal Information Management

Database Neutrality

The WebObjects framework supports complete database abstraction via its Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF) resulting in entirely database-neutral applications. Database abstraction is implemented using a database adaptor architecture responsible for generating SQL requests. The weblicon applications internally use an SQL-independent abstract database access automatically mapping database records and relations to object graphs. The result is an objectoriented access to arbitrary relational databases. Database adaptors currently are available for Oracle, Sybase, Informix, OpenBase, Frontbase, LDAP and any ODBC-databases
