VoiceXML
The Weblicon VoiceXML server provides a speech interface for accessing the Weblicon PIM with an ordinary or wireless phone. The server application dynamically generates audible prompts, handles spoken replies, and gives the user access to important calendar details, personal contact information, to-dos, and e-mail messages. The VoiceXML server supports Dutch, English, French, German, or Italian and can be configured to use male or female prompts.

The Weblicon VoiceXML server works in conjunction with a third-party VoiceXML gateway. The VoiceXML gateway provides a direct interface with the caller, who connects to the gateway using a traditional phone line (Public Switched Telephone Network or PSTN), wireless connection, or potentially Voice Over IP (VoIP). The VoiceXML gateway contains voice and telephony functionality including an automated speech recognition (ASR) engine, a text-to-speech (TTS) synthesizer, an audio player, a telephony interface, and a VoiceXML browser.
The third-party VoiceXML gateway connects to the Weblicon VoiceXML server running on the application server and exchanges VoiceXML documents containing prompts and user dialogs. Because Weblicon has chosen the industry-standard VoiceXML, any VoiceXML compliant gateway can be used to provide speech access to the user’s personal data.
