Technical Architecture
The Weblicon synchronization architecture supports bidirectional synchronization of the user’s centrally hosted data with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express as well as Palm and PocketPC PDAs. Since Weblicon has based its architecture on the open industry standard SyncML, the Organizer can be synchronized with any SyncML enabled device including mobile phones such as the Ericsson T68 or Nokia Communicator.

As the first technology supplier in Europe, Weblicon enables users to synchronize their personal data Over-The-Air. The Weblicon SyncML server was officially SyncML-certified at the Sync Fest in Boston in April 2002.

The Outlook Sync seamlessly integrates the Weblicon Organizer with the popular Microsoft Outlook desktop PIM application. Changes to appointments, contacts or to-do lists are synchronized bi-directional resulting in a full integration of the Microsoft product. The sync process can be started with a simple click in the Outlook toolbar.
The Weblicon synchronization application is a user friendly one-click solution which was carefully designed and pre-configured to produce good synchronization results without any additional user interaction or manual configuration.
Weblicon SyncML server is available as a separate product independent from the Weblicon PIM applications and can be integrated with 3rd party Messaging and PIM services such as the Sun ONE Calendar server.
Architecture
The Weblicon synchronization architecture is based entirely on SyncML. The proprietary synchronization clients (Weblicon Outlook Sync, Weblicon HotSync Conduit and Weblicon PocketPC Sync) use SyncML over HTTP to synchronize with the Weblicon PIM using the Weblicon SyncML server. The Weblicon SyncML server synchronizes SyncML clients with the address book stored in the LDAP directory and the appointments and to-do lists stored in the RDBMS systems (e.g. Oracle).
By using the standard SyncML protocol, any SyncML enabled device such as such as the Ericsson T68 can be synchronized with the Weblicon PIM. For wireless devices such as mobile phones, the architecture supports synchronization with the Weblicon PIM over-the-air.

SyncML
The SyncML standard (http://www.syncml.org) has been developed by industry leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia, Palm, StarFish and Motorola. Many companies have announced support for synchronization using this standard protocol. SyncML promises vendor-neutral interoperability for synchronization of mobile phones, PDAs as well as desktop and online PIM software.
Weblicon SyncML Server
The Weblicon SyncML server provides a SyncML synchronization interface to the Weblicon address book, appointments and to-do lists. It is a faceless server application invisible to the end-user and is installed on the application server.
The Weblicon synchronization architecture is based entirely on the open industry standard SyncML. By supporting the SyncML protocol on the server side, the Weblicon synchronization server is compatible with any SyncML enabled device such as the Nokia Communicator 9210 or the Ericsson T68.
Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express
Weblicon has implemented a native Windows application for synchronizing the Weblicon PIM with the popular Microsoft Outlook desktop PIM. The Weblicon Outlook Sync application is downloaded and installed on the users PC. It supports synchronization of addresses, appointments and to-do items with Microsoft Outlook and synchronization of addresses with Microsoft Outlook Express.
Palm PDAs
Weblicon has developed a synchronization module for the Palm HotSync application synchronizing the Weblicon PIM with Palm PDA devices. The Weblicon Palm conduit is integrated seamlessly into the standard Palm HotSync application. The user simply presses the HotSync button on the cradle of the Palm PDA in order to initiate the synchronization process.
Pocket PC PDAs
The PocketPC SyncML client supports synchronization of the Pocket Outlook with the Weblicon PIM. The synchronization application is implemented as a native PocketPC application and is installed on the handheld device. If the PocketPC is in the cradle, the Weblicon Sync Proxy application running on the PC acts as a gateway to the Weblicon SyncML server. While on the road, the Weblicon PocketPC SyncML client allows wireless synchronization by establishing an Internet connection via a mobile phone.
SyncML enabled mobile phones
Since the Weblicon SyncML server is based entirely on the SyncML standard, it is possible to synchronize the Weblicon PIM with SyncML enabled mobile phones, such as the Ericsson T68 and the Nokia Communicator.
