Feb 05 2002
Berlin, 2/04/2002 - Weblicon Technologies AG joins the Wireless Village initiative spearheaded by Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia integrating Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) into its Online Organizer.
Weblicon has placed mobility and instant messaging in the heart of its strategy with the goal to bring real-time messaging and presence information to mobile devices.
"We will implement full support for the protocols defined by the Wireless Village initiative and seamlessly integrate Instant Messaging into our Online Organizer", said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO and co-founder of Weblicon. "By actively joining the Wireless Village initiative, we are on the forefront of developments allying with technology leaders like Ericsson".
Weblicon provides mobile operators, ISPs and hardware vendors with Personal Information Management (PIM) services. The Weblicon Organizer is a revenue-driving, customer-binding service adding significant value to the product portfolio of mobile operators driving the transition from voice to data services.
Integrating IMPS with its Online Organizer will allow users of the Weblicon Organizer to exchange Instant Messages with upcoming mobile phones from industry leading manufacturers. IMPS enables sending of short text messages and even picture, voice and video communication. Using an IMPS mobile phone equipped with a camera, users will be able to take a photo of a scenic route and instantly send the picture to a friend or co-worker in the office. They will be able to indicate a mood by switching to "busy" while in a meeting or "available" during leisure time.
"We always wanted to add Instant Messaging to our product, but until now, there was no standard for interoperability between devices and existing online communities", said Brinkschulte. "Instant Messaging and Presence Services will make our product even more attractive for mobile operators and hardware vendors".
