Weblicon, mobilkom austria Release World's First Wireless SyncML Server

Developed for Sun TM Open Net Environment Platform

Developed by mobilkom austria and Weblicon in a mobile operator environment on the Sun TM Open Net Environment (Sun ONE), the world's first SyncML server is now available. The Weblicon SyncML server enables over-the-air synchronization of mobilkom austria's A1 ORGANIZER with the mobile phones of Nokia, SonyEricsson and Siemens. The A1 ORGANIZER provides communications and personal information management (PIM) services based on the Sun TM ONE Messaging Server (formerly iPlanet TM Messaging Server) and Sun TM ONE Calendar Server (formerly the iPlanet TM Calendar Server).

The new SyncML solution allows users to seamlessly synchronize the address book and calendar of their A1 ORGANIZER with the built-in address book and calendar of a mobile phone. In addition, users can synchronize their A1 ORGANIZER with Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express desktop organizer and Palm or PocketPC PDAs.

"The wireless synchronization of the A1 ORGANIZER brings it all together -- finally, the PC is synchronized with the A1 ORGANIZER, mobile phone and PDA. It truly delivers personal information at any time, anywhere and on any device. We are proud to announce the world's first live implementation of wireless synchronization underlining the innovation leadership of mobilkom austria," said Franz Kroepfl of mobilkom austria.

The SyncML standard, which is quickly becoming the de facto standard for synchronization, plays an important role in this new development because it enables cross-vendor compatibility with any SyncML-enabled mobile phone. The Sun ONE platform is the open, integratable product platform on which SyncML was developed that enables the development and delivery of Java TM technology based Web Services.

"Weblicon, mobilkom austria, and Sun Microsystems are on the forefront of the technological development and we are delighted to announce the world's first live SyncML server. Weblicon has always been a strong supporter of open industry standards, and SyncML in particular has a large potential for propelling the usage of wireless applications," said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Weblicon Technologies AG.

"Weblicon's SyncML solution extends the benefits of the Sun ONE Messaging Server and Sun ONE Calendar server, significantly increasing access to communications services and improving customer satisfaction," said Patrick Dorsey, group manager, Sun ONE Communications Business Management.
