First European PIM Vendor with wireless SyncML synchronization.
Weblicon officially SyncML certified
Berlin 31th May 2002. Weblicon Technologies AG today announced completion of the certification process for its SyncML synchronization server. At the recent Sync Fest in Boston, USA, the company successfully demonstrated synchronization with more than eight SyncML clients from various companies. Weblicon is showing the SyncML server with support for wireless synchronization of appointments, contacts and tasks at Internet World, Berlin, Germany Hall 2.2, Booth C19.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO and founder of Weblicon, touts the advantages of the SyncML standard: With SyncML becoming widely adopted by leading mobile phone manufacturers, the market will accelerate dramatically. Finally, seamless interoperability between devices from different hardware and software vendors is becoming a reality.
The Weblicon SyncML server supports wireless synchronization with any SyncML-compliant device or software. Leading mobile phone manufacturers have recently introduced SyncML compliant mobile phones and the number of supporters is growing rapidly. SonyEricsson ships the hot-selling T68i and T39 with SyncML built-in. Nokia has the SyncML compliant Communicator and will soon ship the 7650 with built-in SyncML compatibility. Other companies have announced plans to ship compliant products throughout 2002.
Weblicon has built its synchronization architecture entirely on the SyncML standard and does not use proprietary protocols. Even synchronization with the companys own clients for Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Pocket PCs and Palm PDAs are using the SyncML protocol internally.
Other companies have added SyncML support to their existing synchronization servers only as an afterthought. Weblicon has chosen a much cleaner approach and has the right architecture at the right time. Brinkschulte said.
In order to integrate the popular Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express programs, Weblicon has created a SyncML adaptor for synchronization with the Weblicon SyncML server. In addition, the company has developed SyncML synchronization software for Palm PDAs and Microsofts PocketPC operating system, which powers the popular Compaq iPaq PDAs. Because the Weblicon software is installed and runs on the PDA, it even supports wireless synchronization of the built-in Pocket Outlook with the Weblicon SyncML server.
With wireless synchronization of the PocketPC, Weblicon has even beaten Microsoft at its own playing ground. Microsoft currently requires an old-fashioned cable connection to synchronize with Exchange and does not support wireless synchronization using a mobile phone at all Brinkschulte laughs.
The Weblicon SyncML server even has become a stand-alone product that can be integrated with existing Messaging and PIM systems. Using industry-standard protocols LDAP and CAP, the Weblicon SyncML server can add SyncML synchronization to existing installations of iPlanet Messaging and Calendar servers from Sun Microsystems.
