Mobility Unlimited: STRATO Communicator with Wireless SyncML
STRATO Communicator provides anytime, anywhere access to important data, appointments and contacts through Mobile Phones and PDAs
May 03, 2004, Berlin, Germany – Today, mobility is more important than
ever – and STRATO subscribers are becoming mobile without limits: STRATO being the first in Germany to offer customers a solution which allows real-time access to their appointment, contact and task data wirelessly, any time, from anywhere. Jointly developed with Berlin-based Weblicon Technologies AG, the solution requires nothing more than a mobile phone, a Palm or a PocketPC, making the “office in your pocket” a reality.
To keep data always up-to-date, STRATO and Weblicon have developed a sophisticated organizer technology, incorporating a server based on the SyncML standard. This technology allows all tasks, contacts and appointments stored in programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express to be synchronized with the STRATO Communicator. For instance, calendar entries will be transferred automatically from Outlook to the STRATO Communicator and can be accessed and edited by subscribers with any mobile device, mobile phone or PDA.
The Communicator is available to STRATO subscribers starting with the “WebVisitenkarten C” package. It comprises a central address book and easy-to-use messaging functionality. With the “PowerWeb” package, STRATO provides a version of the Communicator targeted at professional users, which handles all features supported by Microsoft Outlook. This includes the management of e-mails, contacts, tasks as well as appointments.
Installation and synchronization are very simple: after accessing the STRATO customer care area, the user is led step-by-step through the installation process. Last but not least, STRATO continues its commitment to security: all user data is secured and protected from unauthorised access.

A look at the numbers proves this last point: after only two months since the service was launched, more than 250,000 synchronization sessions have been recorded. In March, the number topped half a million, demonstrating that there are more and more STRATO subscribers who appreciate the qualities of an online organizer that features wireless SyncML.
This success is also well recognized at Weblicon. “We have now proved that the excellent usability of the STRATO Communicator, combined with synchronization support for many different mobile devices, has driven take-up by STRATO customers.” explains Daniel Hoepfner, Weblicon Director Business Development & Marketing.
